AHD Passive Video Balun — HD signal over UTP cable
The AHD passive video balun allows high-definition video signals from surveillance cameras to be transmitted over UTP cable, eliminating the need for coaxial cable over long distances. It's an ideal solution for new CCTV installations or for retrofitting existing networks with network cable, without any additional power costs. The package includes two units — a transmitter and a receiver — everything you need for a complete connection.
What you get with this product
- Stable transmission up to 300 meters over UTP CAT5/5E/6 cable for AHD and CVI signals, without image degradation
- Compatibility with AHD, HDCVI, and HDTVI cameras at 720P and 1080P resolutions — works with most modern DVRs
- Passive operation — no power supply required, reducing installation costs and eliminating points of failure
- Fast connection via push terminal — UTP cable is secured without special tools, saving installation time
- Integrated 2kV surge protection on coaxial and 4kV on UTP, protecting equipment in case of electrical discharge
- Complete package with two baluns — transmitter-receiver pair ready for immediate use after unboxing
How it works and how to install it
The passive video balun converts the video signal from the camera's or DVR's BNC connector and transmits it over a pair of wires in a standard UTP cable, without any external power source. Installation is straightforward: connect the BNC to the camera or DVR, secure the UTP wires in the push terminal by simply pressing, then do the same at the other end with the second balun. No software configuration or modification of DVR settings is required.
Frequently asked questions
Does this video balun work with IP cameras or only with analog HD cameras?
This balun is exclusively designed for analog HD cameras — AHD, HDCVI, and HDTVI — it is not compatible with IP cameras that use network protocols.
Can I use the same UTP cable for video signal and network data at the same time?
It is not recommended. The UTP cable used for the balun must be dedicated exclusively to video transmission to avoid interference and signal degradation.
At distances over 200 meters, does the image remain clear or does noise appear?
Up to 300m for AHD/CVI and 200m for TVI, the signal is stable with quality CAT5E or CAT6 UTP cable; at longer distances, visible interference may appear in the image.
