DC 1000V Bipolar MCB Safety for Photovoltaic Systems
The DC 1000V - 2P / 63A photovoltaic circuit MCB protects the solar installation against short circuits and overloads, preventing equipment damage or fire risk. It is designed exclusively for direct current (DC), unlike conventional AC circuit breakers that are not suitable for such applications. Its compact DIN rail format makes it suitable for any residential or industrial photovoltaic electrical panel.
What you get with this product
- Real protection for solar panels and inverter — automatically intervenes in case of short circuit or overload, limiting material damage
- Natively supported 1000V DC voltage — designed for photovoltaic circuits, not an adaptation of an AC circuit breaker
- Bipolar (2 poles) — simultaneously interrupts both conductors of the DC circuit, in accordance with good safety practices in solar installations
- Quick mounting on 35mm DIN rail — mounts in the electrical panel in minutes, without special tools
- Breaking capacity 10000A — handles short circuit currents found in medium and large photovoltaic installations
- Robust DALBI NTS-63 construction — resistant to vibrations, varying temperatures, and prolonged use in demanding technical environments
How it works and how to install it
The bipolar DC MCB is mounted on a 35mm DIN rail in the photovoltaic distribution board, on the direct current branch between the solar panels and the inverter. The thermomagnetic mechanism reacts to prolonged overload (thermal protection) and instantaneous short circuit (magnetic protection), automatically disconnecting the circuit on both poles simultaneously. Reconnection is done manually, after identifying and remedying the cause, by simply operating the handle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a regular AC MCB instead for solar panels?
No. Standard AC circuit breakers are not approved for direct current and cannot safely extinguish a DC arc, which creates a fire hazard. This circuit breaker is specifically certified for 1000V DC.
What nominal current should I choose — 25A, 32A, or 63A?
The nominal current is chosen based on the maximum current generated by the string of solar panels connected to that branch. The value must be equal to or immediately greater than the short-circuit current (Isc) of the string, according to the panel's technical datasheets.
Does this circuit breaker also function as a circuit disconnector?
Yes, the MCB handle also allows for deliberate manual disconnection of the circuit, and can be used as an isolation point during maintenance work, provided that the safety regulations specific to photovoltaic installations are observed.
